Turnitin on CICS Student computers

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012

There appears to be a problem with uploading files to Turnitin using Internet Explorer.

The link in the email you are sent from Turnitin seems to be causing the problem. Please go to http://submit.ac.uk/ and login using the email address you see in MUSE and the password you previously set. If you need to reset your password, be aware that your last name could be your student registration number.

Using a different browser also resolves this problem. It’s possible to install Firefox on a University computer. You can find out how to do this at http://shef.ac.uk/cics/studentcomputing/software

People have reported getting this far and then there is no further progress

The three most common problems students encounter with turnitin are as follows:

More information about using turnitin

If you don’t know/haven’t been told your password, please go to submit.ac.uk, click the user login button and click the ‘forgot your password’ link. Enter your university email address remembering to enter the whole word ‘sheffield’.

To be clear, using e.g. jsmith1@shef.ac.uk will not work, while using e.g. jsmith1@sheffield.ac.uk will work. If you do not know the password for the @sheffield.ac.uk account, you need to reset the password as described above

Frequent problem #2: Changing your Name / Registration Number to allow for anonymous marking.

To change your name, you should login to submit.ac.uk, click ‘user info’ at the top of the page, then set your first name to SRN and your last name to your actual Student Registration Number as it appears on your UCard.

Dyslexic Students may opt to add SpLD to their Name field

Frequent problem #3: Trying to use the wrong website.   Using a search engine to find Turnitin will usually take you to the American site.  You MUST use http://www.submit.ac.uk
